Don't worry about removing the water afterwards. This technique will get down into the smallest recesses. Even if you dry the parts completely, any remaining zinc chloride will absorb water from the air and promote rust. In your case, remember that 'neutralized' is not 'gone', just changed. Warming them a bit helped since they were being cooled by vaporization.

To dry them, I would pour off the free water, vacuum to get most of it out of the holes, again pour off the water that now was mostly on the outsides of the terminals, and put them back in the vacuum for a few hours to completely dry them. I would dump the water after a few cycles, pull a vacuum on the parts to bubble the water out of the holes, rinse again, and repeat the whole process with fresh water. Even when all the air is removed, the water will boil when the pressure gets low enough, so the process will continue through as many cycles as you wish. It would bubble out and water would replace it when I let atmospheric pressure back in. I would cover them with water in a vacuum chamber and pump down to expand the air in the holes. When I got them to be molded into a bakelite case, they would corrode from residual plating solution in the holes. They had holes about 3/8' deep threaded 6-32.

I had a case where a customer was having brass terminals silver plated by an incompetent plater who did not know how to wash parts properly. In a case where that is impractical my next choice would be vacuum cycling. If there is any way to force clean water through the threads, that would be my first choice. If you leave any residue, it is guaranteed to rust. This sounds like classic lead tin solder flux. Zinc chloride is just hydrochloric acid that has reacted with zinc. Whether you like it or not, you have water on the part. Muriatic acid, hydrochloric to use the scientific name, is hydrogen chloride gas dissolved in water.
